HUDSON Family History
This interesting Anglo-Scottish surname is a patronymic. It derives from the personal name "Hudde", which itself has three possible origins. Firstly it may be a nickname form of the pre 7th century Old Saxon "Hugh", a name meaning "mind or heart". This name was very popular with the Normans, who used it widely in England after the Conquest of 1066. Secondly Hudde can be a nickname form of the Germanic and French "Ricard or Richard", and thirdly it can be from the Olde English personal name, "Huda", which gave its name to places such as Huddington in Worcestershire. Hello, I see there isn't enough about the Hudson Family here. We don't come from Millom, as I've heard told falsely. We are from Yorkshire, and if my DNA is anything to go by, we have been there over 10,000 years. The family seat is Tamworth Castle, capital of Mercia. The Hudsons were knights from the 1200s on, then explorers from the 1500s on, including Henry Hudson of the Muscovy Company (that we started). We came to America in 1634 and took part in every major part of the history of the United States, including connections to the earliest patriots. We founded Cincinnati and Hollywood, California.
