HUSSEY Family History
This interesting surname, chiefly found in Scotland, has a number of possible sources. Firstly, it may be of Norman origin, and locational from Houssaye, a place in Seine-Maritime, so called from the Old French "hous", holly. Locational names were originally given to the Lord of the Manor, or as a means of identification to those who had left their place of origin to settle elsewhere. Regional and dialectal differences subsequently roduced several variations of the original spelling of the name. Hosie may also belong to that sizeable group of early European surnames that were gradually created from the habitual use of nicknames...Select Audience

Hi.. I just want to correct that piece written about the Hussey name. It is completely incorrect to say that the Hussey name was chiefly found in Scotland. Of all the nations of the British isles Hussey is probably rarest in Scotland. It is NOT a Scottish name at all. It is a Norman name found moreso in England and Wales. There are also Hussey’s in Ireland where some are of Norman stock, from Hugh De Hose who arrived around 1171 and others are a totally unrelated Gaelic family O’hEodhusa rendered as Hussey in English. It is not a Scottish name at all and that text found on this site is misleading. I have seen that text elsewhere too and it was obviously copied and pasted from an original incorrect source.
Regards,
Patrick Hussey

Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Parsley. My grandmother was born in Ireland, her maiden name was Hussey. She had 3 sons Sean (my father), Donald, and Dermot. I know she had several siblings, a sister Mary who lived in Tralee last I knew. Unfortunately both her and my father have passed and I do not speak to my uncles. I would love to reconnect to my distant cousins.

I am from a small and almost extinct branch of the Hussey family in Co. Westmeath, Ireland. I am very interested in Genealogy and family history and I have done a fair amount of research on my family tree but i have yet plenty to do. I would love to hear from any Husseys who might have links to Westmeath in particular or who have an interest in the family history.
