MCCLURE Family History
Recorded in several spellings including MacClure, McLure, McCloor, and McLeur, this is a Gaelic surname of Scottish origins, also found in both Ireland and the Isle of Man. It derives from the pre 10th century M'Ill'uidhir, which literally translates as 'The son of Ordar's follower'. Just who this 'Ordar' was is unclear, but a reasonable explanation is that he was a Viking, and probably Norse, since the whole of South West Scotland, most of Eastern Ireland and the Isle of Man were one single Norse kingdaom in the 9th and 10th centuries. Today the surname is most popular in Galloway, and has been since at least the 15th century when Johh McLur and Robert McClure were both arrested for murder...Select Audience

McClure
Hello folks, I'm a McClure from Northern Ireland, to clear up any doubts especially for those from the USA, the McClure's are of Scottish descent although the name is more common here in Northern Ireland, there is nothing Southern Irish about the name.. My family originate from County Antrim and the other side of my family are Burns and Stewart which are also both of Scottish descent. If anyone would like to ask anything feel free to message me :)

My grandmother was a McClure/Brady. We thought from Newtownbutler, Fermanagh, Ireland, however just finding out they were originally from Scotland and emmigrated to Newtownbutler, Fermanagh, Ireland. Tryign to gather info past Richard McClure 1879cir. Anyone out there that can get me over the hurdle of going beyond Richard to his lineage?

I am a McClure living in Maine now. I was originally born and raised in Texas. Most of our McClure's that I know of are concentrated in Texas, California, and Florida. We owned what is now the Sears tower. It was sold before I was born, when my dad was a young boy. I am very interested in tracing my family roots all the way back to Ireland and Scotland. I only know that it is probably my great great grandparents that came from Ireland. I am receiving some more extensive information soon from an aunt that lives in Texas. She has traced as much as we know of our family history.

Hello! My Granny was Martha Christine McClure from Arkansas. We know from hard evidence who we are back to one Stephen McClure who was born in Kentucky and died in AR. The male haplogroup has us firmly McClure, but not the main Virginia Halbert ones. I would love to connect with family, regardless of blood distance; I'm a Glasebrook and there aren't that many of us any more. I've connected with my second and third cousins on my mom's side and now to the paternal!
