MURLEY Family History
A County Cork surname normally O'Hurley but also found as Murley, Murilly and Murhila. The original location was kilbritain in the East Carberries, west of Cork and one of the Sept became Bishop of Ross in 1517. The name was prominent in ecclesiastical circles when Thomas O'Hurley (or Murley) was also elected Bishop of Ross but was later incarcerated in the Tower of London where he died in 1580. Brother Donogh O'Murily, a Franciscan was executed for Treason in 1586. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of John O'Muriley which was dated 1527, (deceased) County Cork Records during the reign of King Henry VIII, Good King Hal!, 1510 - 1548 Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation.Select Audience

Larry Murley
My earliest ancestor in America was a Cornelius Murley, he first showed up witnessing a will of a Bernard Griffin in Queen Anne's County, Maryland in 1718. the next time we see him is in an advertisement for a "Runaway Irish Servant of a William Noble in West Fallowfield, township, Chester County, PA in 1742. It described him a "Run away on the 1st inst. from Wm. NOBLE, of Fallowfield Township in Chester County, an Irish servant man, named Cornelius MURLEY, aged about 35 years, a thickset man, dark complexion, black bushy hair, and grim look. Had on when he went away an old blackish Kersey Coat, patch on one sleeve with whitish colour cloth, an old hat, new coarse shirt, patch trowsers half worn, shoes with latchets, and had a sickle along with him. Whoever takes up and secures the said servant so that his Master may have him again, shall have forty shillings reward and all reasonable charges, paid by William NOBLE." That same year, he and his son Daniel Murley are on the rosters of Captain James Gill's Virginia Militia. any help will be appreciated, it would be astounding is someone might help us jump the pond back to Ireland.
